Anderson Silva x Chris Weidman: history
Silva and Weidman faced each other twice in 2013, in clashes that marked the history of the UFC. In the first fight, in July, then-champion Anderson was defending his long unbeaten run – 16 straight victories and 10 consecutive title defenses – when he was surprised by Weidman, who knocked him out in the second round and took the middleweight title.
In the rematch, in November of the same year, the Brazilian suffered a serious fracture in his left leg after having a shot blocked, ending the fight in the second round. The injury was one of the most emblematic in the history of MMA and kept Spider out of the octagons for more than a year. Interestingly, years later, in 2021, Weidman himself suffered a similar fracture.
The possibility of a trilogy between the two was considered several times – including in 2024, when Anderson made his farewell in Brazil, during Spaten Fight Night. At the time, the former champion stated that his rivalry with the American was in the past. However, the project was resumed thanks to Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Jake Paul’s company, which promotes the event.
