The president of the PSDB in Ceará, Ozires Pontes, announced in a post on social media on Friday night (17) Ciro Gomes’ affiliation with the party. He also said that Ciro intends to run for state government in the 2026 elections.
President of the party in Ceará says that Ciro himself wants to announce “in a few days or a few months” his intention to run for state government again. Ciro was governor of Ceará from 1991 to 1994. “Ceará wants Ciro again,” said Ozires, who is also mayor of Massapê (CE).
Ozires says that Ciro will sign his affiliation next week. The event should take place on Wednesday (22) in a hotel in Fortaleza. Ciro, who was also exploring the possibility of joining União Brasil, has not yet commented on membership.
Former senator Tasso Jereissati would have been responsible for persuading Ciro to join the party. In the video, Ozires says that Jereissati convinced the former governor that the “PSDB was the right party”.
The former governor had sent it last week. He had been in the party since 2015, for which he contested the last two presidential elections of the four he has participated in. In 2022 he came in fourth place, with 3% of valid votes, behind Simone Tebet (MDB).
Despite recent moves, the former governor has already stated that he no longer intends to run for President. “I don’t want to be a candidate anymore, no. I don’t want to bother voters anymore,” he declared in an interview with Rádio Itatiaia in September.
