"Putin tried and succeeded in dynamiting" meeting between Trump and Zelensky

Analysis

SIC commentator Luís Ribeiro analyzes the meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, which took place in the United States.

The meeting at the White House between the North American and Ukrainian presidents ended with Donald Trump stating that “it is time” for a peace agreement and without announcing the supply of Tomahawk missiles intended by Kiev.

On the Truth social network, Trump stated that the meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky “was very interesting and cordial”, but that he told the Ukrainian President, “it is time to stop the killing and reach an AGREEMENT”, as he also “vehemently” suggested to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

SIC commentator Luís Ribeiro says that Putin tried and managed to “dynamite” the meeting between Trump and Zelensky.

“In relation to this meeting, it seems clear to me that the mountain broke a mouse”, he stated.

Luís Ribeiro recalls that in the days before the meeting, “Trump seemed intent on selling Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine”. But, after the phone call “which came from Vladimir Putin, Trump retreated and now says he will no longer deliver the missiles and what he wants is peace in Ukraine”.

After the meeting with Trump, Zelensky told the press that they both discussed the issue of long-range Tomahawk missiles, but that it was agreed “not to talk about it because (…) the United States does not want any escalation.”

Trump’s meeting with Zelensky took place one day after a long telephone conversation between the American and Russian Presidents, in which Vladimir Putin warned that if the United States supplied Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, this would constitute a “new escalation” in the conflict and affect relations between Washington and Moscow.
