The American president, , signed a decree that partially alleviates tariffs for the production of automobiles and engines in , according to a text released by this Friday. In the document, however, the fares for trucks and buses are made official.
With the program, valid until 2030, automakers can request credits to offset their tariff costs for car and truck parts worth up to 3.75% of the value of the vehicles they manufacture in American territory. According to The Wall Street Journal, a previous version of the program was only in effect until 2027 and would have seen the discount value drop to 2.5% in 2026.
For NBC News, a senior Trump administration official stated that the priority is to expand domestic vehicle production in the US “to ensure that they have good, well-paying jobs for American workers.”
