Like many other websites, the knowledge encyclopedia Wikipedia is currently suffering from a loss of readers. Where people of all ages used to gather information, things have become increasingly quiet for months. As the non-profit organization Wikimedia Foundation knows, traffic is mainly lost to AI chatbots and corresponding summaries in search engines that diligently use the content of Wikipedia. This shift from human users to generative AI, which only enriches itself with information, could jeopardize the continued existence of the platform.
