Two children aged two and 11 were also among the victims. A family died after a tree fell on their house. a police official confirmed to AFP in a telephone interview. The incident took place in a village near the city of Pitogo, about 153 kilometers from the Philippine capital, Manila. Storm Fengshen hit the country already on Saturday and on Sunday night it moved to the southeastern part of the island of Luzon.
During late Sunday morning, the storm also hit Manila Bay with wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour. It moved further to provinces north of the capital, according to the Philippine Meteorological Service.
At least 47,000 people have left their homes and taken refuge in government-designated temporary shelters across southeastern Luzon since Saturday. confirmed local representatives of the Office for Disaster Management.
