will make his debut as a starter in the anticipated “final” between leader and vice-leader this Sunday (19). After Weverton injured his right hand, the most expensive goalkeeper in alviverde history was chosen by Abel Ferreira for the duel with , for the 29th round at Maracanã, starting at 4pm.

In August, Palmeiras paid 4 million euros (R$25 million) to Nottingham Forest, from England, for the 26-year-old, 2.04 meter tall athlete. Identified with Corinthians, the club for which he became a starter under the command of António Oliveira at the beginning of 2024, he had not yet debuted in his new home, at Allianz Parque.

“It’s a very special moment for me. I’ve been working every day waiting for my chance and it came in a big game, at an important moment of the season. I know the responsibility of defending Palmeiras, especially in a match like this, but I’m prepared. I’m going to do what I’ve always done: play with seriousness, focus and respect for the shirt. It’s time to help the team and repay the trust of everyone who believed in me”, declared the goalkeeper.

Weverton is racing against time to return in 2025, for the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship and Libertadores. Depending on Carlos Miguel’s performance, the tendency is for the goalkeeper, who became Abel Ferreira’s third option this year, to be kept ahead of the alviverde goal.

“The other two (Weverton and Lomba) are ahead due to their games and the pace they have. We now have three very good goalkeepers. Now that they are here, they will start training and we will see. I don’t give anyone shirts, whoever arrives has to show it”, said the Portuguese coach in August this year.

Carlos Miguel had few opportunities in the 2024/2025 season at Nottingham Forest. Therefore, even after having made “love vows” to Corinthians over the last year, he chose to return to Brazilian football and defend Palmeiras.

Regardless of the result, Palmeiras will continue to lead the Brazilian Championship after the match against Flamengo. Three points separate the teams in the table (61 and 58, respectively), but Abel Ferreira’s team has the advantage in the number of victories over their rivals.
