The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it had resumed observing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after carrying out dozens of strikes on targets of the Palestinian militant group Hamas throughout the day. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
- The Israeli army restored the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after the attacks.
- The ceasefire was disrupted by attacks near the city of Rafah.
- Israel responded with attacks in the central and southern parts of the region.
- Israeli soldiers and Palestinian civilians were killed in the fighting.
- Humanitarian aid deliveries were temporarily interrupted.
“As directed by the political leadership and following a series of high-profile attacks in response to violations by Hamas, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has resumed enforcing the ceasefire,” the army said in an official statement. “The IDF will continue to abide by the ceasefire agreement and will respond forcefully to any violation of it,” added the army.
On Sunday morning, according to Israel, Palestinian militants violated the ceasefire with an attack near the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. Tel Aviv responded to the alleged ceasefire violations with attacks, especially in the central and southern parts of the enclave. The armed wing of Hamas – the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades – rejected the allegations of ceasefire violations earlier on Sunday.
The Israeli army reported that Sunday’s fighting resulted in the death of two of its soldiers. The Civil Defense Agency in Gaza, under the administration of Hamas, announced that at least 33 Palestinians died in Israeli airstrikes.
An Israeli security official told AFP earlier on Sunday that as a result of the alleged ceasefire violation on the part of Hamas, Tel Aviv suspended the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip “until further notice”.
