The chancellor requested, in a letter sent to , and , an extra credit of R$352 million for , at the risk of running out of money to pay rent for official properties and logistical support for the president’s (PT) missions abroad.

The letter, dated October 9, is addressed to the ministers (Civil House), (Planning) and (Finance). In it, the chancellor cites the “urgent need for additional credit to allow the department to continue operating” in November and December.

Vieira says that the authorized budget only allows commitments to be honored until the end of October. He emphasizes that this will imply, in the final stretch of the year, the non-payment of labor obligations owed to local contractors abroad, rentals of official properties, housing allowance for civil servants stationed abroad and maintenance of embassies and consulates, in addition to the possible interruption of consular service and logistical support for Lula’s missions abroad.

“It is important to highlight that the rental installments for properties abroad for November are, as a rule, due in the first five days of the month”, he continues. “If this deadline is not met, the MRE will be subject to the payment of fines and eviction actions within the scope of these commitments.”

The minister also recalls that, by the end of the year, he will have to organize a summit of Mercosur heads of state and pay for the body’s participation in the various events related to the UN conference on climate change.

In addition to the R$352 million, Vieira also requested the anticipation of payment limits for expenses that are already scheduled until the end of the year. He also pointed out the need to release R$110 million, with R$37 million for November expenses and R$73 million for December.
