The Louvre Museum was the target of an attempted robbery this Sunday morning, according to the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati. The incident forced the museum to close for the entire day.

A source close to the incident told AFP that “several criminals” stole jewelry that was on display in the museum and fled. According to the newspaper Le Parisien, three criminals stole nine pieces from Napoleon’s jewelry collection.

The incident occurred between 9:30 and 9:40 (local time). The value of the objects in question is not yet known.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspects arrived at the museum on a scooter and used a freight elevator to access the room where the jewelry was displayed.
