Say 'goodbye' to oily hair with an old trick that's back in fashion

Having oily hair is a common problem that affects men and women of all ages. Factors such as stress, pollution, hormonal changes or certain medications can lead to excessive sebum production, leaving hair looking heavy and lacking volume.

According to Notícias ao Minuto and, according to traditional medicine specialist Martina Krcmár, author of the book The Bible of Grandmothers’ Secrets, there are simple and natural ways to alleviate the problem without resorting to chemical products.

One of the most popular tricks is to use baking soda as a dry shampoo. Simply spread a small amount over your scalp and leave it on for a few minutes. The bicarbonate helps to absorb excess oil and also neutralizes smells of tobacco, perspiration or food. It must, however, be applied carefully to avoid contact with the eyes.

Purifying shampoo with black soap

According to Martina Krcmár, an effective alternative is to prepare a purifying shampoo at home. The recipe is simple: two tablespoons of black soap and two tablespoons of baking soda, mixed with a little water until it forms a liquid paste. The mixture must rest for half a day before using. According to the same source, this preparation keeps well and helps to deeply clean the scalp.

For those who prefer quick solutions, there are other natural dry shampoo options. The author suggests talcum powder, oat powder, wheat or chickpea flour, white clay, corn starch, arrowroot or lycopodium powder, a vegetable moss with absorbent properties.

Natural treatments after washing

In addition to powder solutions, there are also liquid treatments that help balance the scalp and prolong the clean feeling. One of the best known is the cider vinegar rinse. The expert recommends mixing a tablespoon of vinegar with a few drops of tea tree essential oil in half a liter of hot water, applying the mixture to the hair after shampooing and without rinsing.

Another refreshing option is a mint rinse. Two tablespoons of leaves boiled in a liter of water are enough for a final rinse that leaves your hair lighter and more fragrant. Orange peels, boiled for 15 minutes, can also be used in the same way, helping to remove residue and give a natural shine.

Masks to control oiliness

Among the weekly treatments, lemon and green clay masks stand out. The first combines spring water with lemon juice and essential oils of sage, cypress, lavender and cedar. It should be applied to the scalp and left to act overnight, with the hair washed the next morning.

As mentioned, the montmorillonite green clay mask, mixed with mineral water, can be applied for five minutes before rinsing with warm water. For more visible results, it is recommended to add cider vinegar to the last wash water.

According to Martina Krcmár, these methods, used regularly, help to rebalance the scalp and reduce excess oil naturally.
