Food is essential, but it becomes especially important in the type of food offered to minors. Centers must ensure that the variety and supply of all the nutrients that children require are guaranteed, without resorting to harmful foods.

There is so much attention in some countries that a school in the Greek municipality of Haidari, west of Athens, has been fined 1,000 euros after an inspection of the Athens Western Sector Development Directorate because an item was found missing from the list of mandatory products, it has been reported.

The inspection, carried out on October 7, detected the lack of possession and distribution of a 140 gram spinach cake. This, as noted by the same media, “infringes Ministerial Decision YA 91354/2017 (Official Gazette 2983/B’) on the operation of school canteens.”

These inspections have “the objective of ensure the integrity and quality of the items offered in school cafeterias, in order to comply with the hygiene and nutrition standards of the students.

This This is not the first time a similar case has occurred. in the west of Athens. Shortly before, this month, another school, this time in the municipality of Ílion, received an administrative fine for the same amount and for the same reason: not providing or offering individual portions of spinach pie, as established by the regulations.

This may seem anecdotal, and even be a joy for the little ones who get rid of a food that is usually their favorite, but providing adequate and healthy nutrition to the little ones should be a basic and priority objective in all societies.
