Alcains captain attacks referee after defeat and is identified by GNR

A game in the 1st District Division of Castelo Branco ended in controversy and violence. Leo Paixão, captain of Alcains, attacked the referee at the end of the match against Pedrógão de São Pedro, who won 3-2.

Shortly after the final whistle, the player addressed the referee in an excited tone, pointing the finger at him. The referee reacted by showing him a straight red card, which made the atmosphere quickly heat up. Despite attempts by teammates and opponents to push him away, Leo Paixão ended up throwing a punch that hit the referee’s shoulder.

The 26-year-old central defender was identified by the GNR while still at the scene, while the referee team was escorted by an agent in the opposite direction. The incident marred the end of a match that, until then, was running normally.
