Reaction occurred after video by Chico Buarque shown before the performance of the song “Cálice”
The show in São Paulo on Saturday (October 18, 2025) gained prominence because, among other things, the screams of “no amnesty” chanted by the audience of around 50,000 people gathered at Allianz Parque. Videos published by spectators who recorded the audience’s reaction were circulating on social media.
Before singing to music “Cup”a partnership between Gil and Chico Buarque, the screen showed a video in which the Rio singer explained the behind-the-scenes of the composition. The song was released in 1973, during the Brazilian military dictatorship. It is one of the best known in the repertoire of both artists and usually marks Gilberto Gil’s shows due to its content of contestation and symbolic appeal.
Shortly after the video was shown, part of the audience sang the chorus of “no amnesty”against requests for amnesty to be granted to those involved in the acts of .

The same song was performed by Gil and Chico on September 21st on Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, during a protest against the call – by the Senate on September 24th.
The Allianz Parque demonstrations refer to the current debate on the (Bill) that is being processed in the Chamber of Deputies and proposes granting amnesty to those convicted of the acts.
The text is reported by the deputy (Solidariedade-SP), who tries to build consensus between government and opposition. According to him, the report will be for the reduction of sentences imposed on those involved, and not for the general amnesty defended by a wing of the PL (Liberal Party), the former president’s party.
Gilberto Gil’s show at Allianz Parque was part of the Bahian singer’s farewell tour, “King Time”. The presentation featured the participation of Roberto Carlos, who sang “Peace” e “Beyond the Horizon” alongside Gil, who was Minister of Culture from 2003 to 2008, in the first years of (PT) in Presidency.
Gil dedicated part of the show to the memory of his daughter Preta Gil, who will be 50 years old in July 2025. The next shows are scheduled for Rio de Janeiro, on October 25th and 26th. The tour “King Time” it should end in Belém, in 2026.
