Bolivia has elected the centrist Rodrigo Paz Pereira to end the twenty-year hegemony of the leftist bloc in the country and, after winning an unprecedented second round in Bolivian democracy, he will be the new president. The candidate of the Christian Democratic Party (PSD) won this Sunday’s vote by obtaining 54.53% of the votes, compared to 45.2% for his rival, the conservative Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, according to data released by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), with 97% of the count carried out.
