According to Prime Minister Petr Fiala, the Czech Republic is not at risk of any damage related to the dispute between the outgoing and incoming governments over the proposal on the state budget. The head of ANO, Andrej Babiš, has repeatedly warned that if the government does not re-send its draft budget for discussion to the Chamber of Deputies, the country is threatened with economic damage. According to Fial, the government cabinet will evaluate the situation at the beginning of November and decide whether or not to send the proposal to the House of Representatives. Until then, according to him, it is only a matter of diverting attention from the problems with the formation of a new government. He wrote it on Monday on the X social network, reports TASR in Prague.

  • Prime Minister Fiala assured that there is no threat of economic damage to the Czech Republic.
  • The ANO movement does not have its own draft budget for next year.
  • The new Chamber of Deputies will start discussing the budget after the constituent session.
  • The current government will evaluate the situation regarding the budget at the beginning of November.
  • The new government faces difficulties in forming because of the coalition partners.

“It is clear that the ANO movement has deceived its voters and has no promised own draft of the state budget for next year. That is why it needs to rely on the documents of the current government.” pointed out the prime minister. He reiterated that the proposal is available to everyone and the government sent the proposal to the House in accordance with the law shortly before the September 30 election. The previous composition of the lower chamber did not have time to discuss the proposal, and its new composition cannot discuss it until it is presented to it again.

Fiala argues that the constitutive meeting of the Chamber has not yet taken place. “I want to assure all citizens that no harm is imminent. The new House of Representatives has not even been established yet. Only she can seriously deal with the budget for next year,” he emphasized. The constituent meeting of the Chamber is scheduled for November 3.

“At the beginning of November, the current government will undoubtedly evaluate the current situation with regard to the time horizon of the formation of a new government and decides whether it will make sense to send the prepared budget again for negotiation. Until then, it is only a matter of diverting attention from the problem of forming Babiš’s government and so on an attempt to obscure the fact that the ANO movement does not have what it promised before the elections,” wrote the outgoing prime minister.

He added that Due to the scandals of his possible coalition partners, Babiš is apparently unable to form a functional government as quickly as he originally wanted. He was apparently alluding to the case of Filip Turk, the honorary president of the Motoristi sebe party, about his alleged racist or xenophobic statements on social networks. At the beginning of the negotiations on the next government, Turk was mentioned as a possible minister of foreign affairs.

Party chairman Petr Macinka, against whom thousands of people protested on Sunday in Prague’s Hradčany Square, also has problems. They asked him not to lead the Department of the Environment. Macinka has said in the past that if his party were to enter the government, “green blood will flow”. The cultural community does not like the fact that the former frontman of the band JAR, Oto Klempíř, should lead the department of culture. He defended himself on the social network X that critics should at least wait for the government’s program statement and only then criticize it for something specific.
