Is this a ceasefire? Israel has killed 97 Palestinians and wounded 230 since the start of the Gaza truce

At least 97 Gazans have been killed by Israeli fire and another 230 have been injured since the entry into force on October 10, the Hamas Government in the Gaza Strip reported late on Sunday.

“We affirm that the Israeli occupation has committed a series of serious and repeated violations since the announcement of the end of the war in the Gaza Strip, amounting to 80 documented violations as of Sunday,” the Government Press Office detailed.

Among the aforementioned violations, it lists direct shootings against civilians, bombings and deliberate attacks and the detention of several civilians, among others. “This constitutes one of the ceasefire decision and the norms of international humanitarian law,” he added.

Among the dead since the ceasefire agreement came into force on the 10th at noon, there are eleven members of the same family – among them seven children aged 5 and 13 – whose vehicle was bombed by Israel on the 17th.

According to an investigation published by the , the family was traveling from the south of the Gaza Strip to Gaza City in an open-top vehicle, which “clearly indicates its civilian character,” the group detailed.

The CPDH also documented, on October 16, the murder of two brothers, aged 18 and 20, in a drone attack in the Abasan area, east of Khan Yunis (south). Two days earlier, Israeli drones killed a 25-year-old man and injured another in the village of al Fukhari, also in Khan Younis.

Yesterday alone, at least 35 Palestinians died in dozens of bombings in different areas of the Gaza Strip, according to a count by Gazan informants with data from hospital morgues.

Israel accuses Hamas of having violated the ceasefire and the death of two Israeli soldiers yesterday in Gaza, but last night it declared the ceasefire reestablished. Hamas denied those shots and, tonight, the US said that it believes that it was this militia that fired, but rather one of those that still survive in the strip.

quotes an Egyptian official involved in the ceasefire agreement process as saying that constant contacts have been maintained overnight with officials from both sides, Israel and Hamas, to reduce tension.
