ICBAS students will appear in two locations in Porto with free screenings and healthy lifestyle habits.
The Torre dos Clérigos and the Trindade metro station are two places in the Porto which see thousands of people passing through every day. Many of them tourists, yes.
But these two points in the city’s downtown will be different over the next three days. More specifically at Pólo Zero (next to Torre dos Clérigos) and Trinity Porto (near the Trindade Metro station).
Between the 21st and 23rd of October – Tuesday and Thursday – around 170 students of Medicine will go there to carry out free screenings and promote healthy lifestyle habits among the population.
The initiative is called “Medicine in downtown” and is part of the Student Association of the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (AEICBAS) at the University of Porto.
In these locations, free cardiovascular risk assessments“contributing to the early detection of cardiovascular diseases, which continue to represent one of the biggest public health problems”, highlights Lara Ferreira, coordinator of the XV Edition of “Medicina na Baixa”.
In addition to cardiovascular screenings, according to a statement sent to ZAP, awareness sessions will be held on sexual and reproductive health, mental health and oral health.
This will be the 15th edition of an “essential initiative of social responsibility and civic training for students”, describes Carolina Domingues, president of AEICBAS.
In the last edition, more than 700 assessments were carried out on the population.
This year’s three moments will take place between 10am and 6:30pm. The activities are open to everyone.
