Motta defends increasing the ethanol mixture in gasoline to 35%

The president of , (Republicanos-PB), stated this Monday (20.Oct.2025) that he will “to fight” to increase the mixture of anhydrous ethanol in gasoline from 30% to 35%. The statement was made during the 25th International Conference on Sugar and Ethanol, in São Paulo, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of ProÁlcool, a program created in 1975 to encourage the use of biofuels in Brazil.

“Today we already have 30% of the mixture of gasoline with ethanol and we will fight and fight so that we can advance to 35% in the mixture, which will further strengthen our country’s biofuels industry. […] The Chamber will continue to be attentive to strengthening the sector amidst the challenges that arise”said Motta during the event.

Motta cited the role of Congress in approving policies that expand the use of clean energy, such as the Fuel of the Future program, which allows the gradual increase in ethanol blends up to 35%, if technical feasibility is proven by the (National Energy Policy Council).

Currently, Brazil adopts a 30% ethanol blend in gasoline, known as E30. The measure, in force since August, was adopted in June by the CNPE and increased the previous percentage of 27%.

According to , the increase will allow the country to return to being an ethanol exporter. At the time of approval, the minister stated that the change reinforces the country’s energy sovereignty. According to the government, Brazil will stop importing gasoline and will start producing surplus.

The government estimates an annual surplus of 700 million liters and savings of up to R$0.11 per liter on C gasoline.
