Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly offered to cede parts of the occupied Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia in exchange for keeping the entire region of Donetsk and Luhansk in a future peace agreement. According to The Washington Post, the proposal was made by the Russian to President Donald Trump in a phone call.
According to the newspaper, in the conversation lasting more than two hours, Putin once again massaged Trump’s ego without restrictions, and took the opportunity to talk about a new “peace offer” which, depending on how it is interpreted, could be a realistic starting point for broader negotiations.
If this is the version, it offers something new, since until last week the Kremlin repeatedly stated that it could not give up even a meter of the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions because “they are already part of Russia according to its constitution”.

According to The Washington Post, Moscow has not defined which areas would return to Kiev’s control in this proposal, while Ukraine believes this is another deception strategy by the Russian autocrat.
Furthermore, Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine has been firm in his willingness not to initiate talks by giving up part of the territory. “We will give nothing to the Russian Federation and we will not forget anything,” he declared.
