After the fires that destroyed vast areas of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, an innovative initiative is bringing life back to the burned mountains. The Municipality of Ponte da Barca is using a drone to fly over the affected areas and drop seeds, in an operation that symbolizes hope and regeneration.
The municipality revealed that “Serra Amarela is beginning to show signs of hope”, stressing that action is essential to restore damaged ecosystems, promote vegetation growth and prevent soil erosion. Furthermore, it intends to guarantee food for animals that were left without natural pasture after the fires.
The project has the support of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), the Confederation of Farmers of Portugal and several local communities.
