South Korea says "enough" and reveals its missile plan to respond to North Korea

The arms race on the Korean Peninsula accelerates. has announced that in the coming months it will deploy a ballistic missile that will have a conventional 8-ton warhead. In fact, has been nicknamed ‘the monster’ due to its size.

Specifically, the new South Korean ballistic missile is called Hyunmoo-5 and has been designed to destroy underground bunkers located where nuclear weapons could be housed.

In an interview with South Korea’s main news agency, the South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-backhas reported that the Hyunmoo-5 missile has begun mass production.

According to Ahn Gyu-back, the goal of the South Korean arms industry is to significantly increase production of the missile and to be able to deploy it before the end of 2025.

The South Korean Defense Minister has stressed that the country must have a considerable number of Hyunmoo-5 missiles in order to be able achieve a “balance of terror” in the face of North Korea’s continued development of nuclear missiles.

“Since South Korea is a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and cannot possess nuclear weapons, I firmly believe that we must have a considerable number of Hyunmoo-5 missiles to achieve a balance of terror.”stated the minister.

In that sense, Ahn Gyu-back has warned that intelligence services have detected movements near a North Korean launch base that suggest that The Hwasong-20 ICBM could be launched by the end of the year.

However, the South Korean Defense Minister has stressed that, despite the fact that this intercontinental ballistic missile “probably capable” of reaching the USNorth Korea does not have the technologies that allow missiles to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere or carry multiple nuclear warheads.
