French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday he welcomed the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. However, he emphasized that Ukrainians and Europeans should also be present during the discussions. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.
“From the moment they discuss the fate of Ukraine, Ukrainians should be at the table. From the moment they discuss what affects the security of Europeans, Europeans should be at the table.” Macron told reporters after the MED9 summit in Slovenia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that if he is invited, he is ready to participate in the negotiations. Neither Moscow nor Washington mentioned his participation in their statements.
Diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s three-and-a-half-year-long invasion of Ukraine have stalled since the August negotiations between Trump and Putin in Alaska, writes AFP. Last week, the two leaders announced that they would meet in Budapest.
