The president of the USA, , stated this Monday (20) that “the war against Russia can still be won, but I don’t think it will happen”, and defended his government’s efforts to mediate a peace agreement. “If we don’t succeed, a large group of people will pay a high price,” he warned during comments to reporters at , before a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Regarding the conflict between and , Trump said that the American government has taken “a lot of steps to ensure peace in the Middle East” and that if the group “is no good, we will eradicate them if necessary, and they know it”.
The president denied having instructed Israel not to resume operations in the Gaza Strip: “I did not tell Israel not to return to the Gaza Strip. We only gave Hamas a small chance.” In a more general tone, Trump once again highlighted the role of sanctions and tariffs in his foreign policy: “The power of tariffs and trade is undeniable. We use it to stop wars,” he said.
