October 31st is World Savings Day. Then banks open their doors again and reward savings deposits with small gifts such as Tupperware containers or crayons. This year this day is celebrated for the 100th time. This shows what a high tradition World Savings Day has in Austria. The idea goes back to the 1st International Savings Bank Congress in October 1924, which was about promoting the idea of saving. A year later, World Savings Day was celebrated for the first time. Promoting the idea of saving is something that has been sustainably successful in Austria. Deposits in savings accounts, savings accounts or even salary accounts are very popular in this country.
