The FAB published, in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union), a notice of unenforceability of bidding for the purchase of aircraft, a mechanism used when there is an impossibility of commercial competition for the final object.
The estimated value of the operation is US$229 million (around R$1.2 billion at current prices) and will be carried out through the program maintained by the United States Army.
The program allows the US Army to sell used military equipment and use the proceeds to finance new acquisitions.
Negotiations are restricted to countries considered “strategic partners” and usually occur at values lower than those practiced in the international market.
The Brazilian government also advanced in the purchase of 24 BRIFD G5000H model radars, used on Black Hawk aircraft.
These systems are responsible for mapping and detecting targets in combat and rescue missions, expanding the operational capacity of aircraft in adverse conditions.

This type of equipment is only sold to governments considered reliable partners of the United States. Members of the Armed Forces feared that Brazil could be excluded from this type of program amid recent political tensions, which, so far, has not been confirmed.
