Daniel Naroditskychess grandmaster and world youth champion in the under-12 category in 2007, passed away last Sunday (10/20), aged 29. In addition to being a prominent player, he was a sports commentator, coach, educator and content creator.

The news was initially released by the Charlotte Chess Center, the club to which he belonged and where he taught. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

In a statement, the family confirmed the death:

– It is with great sadness that we inform you of the unexpected death of Daniel Naroditsky. He was an accomplished player, educator, and much-loved member of the chess community. He was also a loving son, brother and loyal friend.

Daniel Naroditsky: history

Born in 1995 in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the United States, Daniel started playing chess at the age of six, guided by his father, and soon stood out in school tournaments.

In addition to his world youth title, Naroditsky published the book Mastering Positional Chess at age 14 and won the US Junior Championship in 2013. He became a Grandmaster (GM) in 2013, two years after receiving the title of International Master (IM).

Also known as a streamer and teacher, he gained followers in the United States and around the world, sharing his knowledge in an educational way. Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura commented on social media:

– He loved streaming and always sought to teach. The chess world is very grateful for your dedication.

Daniel was also a columnist for Chess Life magazine between 2014 and 2020, contributing to the promotion of chess.
