The Minister of Finance, , stated this Monday (20) that criticism of the government’s fiscal policy stems from the fact that the Executive chose to reduce the public deficit by charging more from the richest, and not the poorest. The statement was made during the launch of the “Reforma Casa Brasil” program, at Palácio do Planalto. “You hear a lot about the fiscal issue, that the government spends a lot, that it only thinks about taxing bets and bankers. I want to say, president, you will end your term with the best fiscal result since 2015”, said Haddad, addressing the president (PT).

The minister stated that, for the first time, the country is reducing the public deficit by cutting what he called the “business grant”. “Not cutting from those at the bottom, not from those who need housing, not from those who live on minimum wage, not from retirees. This time, we saw an important space to cut the so-called tax expenditure — those who live in the penthouse and do not pay condominium fees. These people were called to contribute to reducing the fiscal deficit”, he declared.

Haddad also highlighted positive economic indicators during the current government. According to him, Lula’s third term will record the lowest inflation accumulated in four years since the Real Plan, the lowest unemployment rate in the historical series of the (started in 2012) and the highest average growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since 2010.

“You have increased salary income in Brazil in a way that has not been seen since the beginning of the Real Plan,” stated the minister. Haddad also cited advances in social policies, highlighting the resumption of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program and stating that the country is “a few steps away from ending the housing deficit”.
