President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has recruited a series of allies since the beginning of his third term in the name of improving the performance of his administration, for political convenience, an attempt to seek more support in Congress or due to problems with the assistant’s performance. The resignation of Márcio Macêdo from the General Secretariat of the Presidency adds to a list of other close allies of Lula who were removed from the government by decision of the president, including Paulo Pimenta, Nisia Trindade, Carlos Lupi and José Chrispiniano.
Márcio Macêdo
Minister left the Government Secretariat after a long process of wear and tear in the position. had been criticizing the mobilization capacity of social movements since May 1, 2024. The position was coveted by PT wings and ended up in the hands of deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP).
Paulo Pimenta
Former minister of Lula’s Secom, he occupied one of the most strategic positions in the government and had daily discussions with the president. Problems in communication, friendly fire and the president’s desire to have a marketer at his side, made Lula leave Paulo Pimenta for . Federal deputy for Rio Grande do Sul, Pimenta returned to the Chamber of Deputies and today leads the government bench in the INSS CPI.

Nisia Trindade
The minister left the Ministry of Health in February after Lula demonstrated dissatisfaction with the lack of results in the area and a long process of “political frying”. Lula especially demanded more results from the program that offered care from medical specialists. Nísia was replaced by Alexandre Padilha. Nísia Trindade returned to Fiocruz, the entity she previously presided over, where she works as a researcher.
Carlos Lupi
President of the PDT, Lupi is a historic ally of Lula and was taken to the position at the height of the scandal of undue INSS discounts. The former minister, however, remains committed to supporting Lula in 2026 and is trying to reach rapprochement with Planalto after his resignation. Lupi was replaced by his executive secretary, Wolney Queiroz.
José Chrispiniano
Lula’s press advisor since 2011, he was Press Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic until the beginning of 2025. He left a position, considered one of Lula’s trust, along with Paulo Pimenta and was replaced by journalist Laercio Portela.
