The Diversity Center stated this Monday (20) that the event, linked to the party, reflects “an exclusionary Brazil” and criticized the fact that the party did not pay for tickets for representatives of the group to participate in the meeting.
The manifesto is signed by the national president of Diversity, Janaína Renée (PA), and by Sabrina Veras (CE), Eduarda Sá (MG), Franciel Britos (SC), Adriano Esteves (RJ) and Aiesa Pedroso (RS), members of the nucleus.
In the document, the members of the nucleus say they were invited to participate in the national meeting of the Ulysses Guimarães Foundation, which began this Tuesday (21) and ends this Wednesday (22), but they say that the fact that “there is no investment in this regard causes concern”. According to them, everyone would have to pay their own expenses.
The manifesto cites financial support that began in 2021 that helped produce official core materials and that was stopped in November 2023, according to the report.
“We also cannot fail to mention that the majority of candidacies linked to the Center, spread throughout the country, received little or no investment in campaigns, and were often passed over in favor of people who were already politically, socially and economically privileged”, they state.
The group says that there was no formal invitation for its members to participate in the final meeting and complains about the fact that the group’s seal was not included in the event’s publicity. “No tickets were paid for representatives of the nucleus to participate,” he says. “Additionally, to date, among the six scheduled panels, all confirmed speakers are men.”
“This ‘Brazil that needs to think about Brazil’ portrays, in fact, just an exclusionary Brazil”, adds the group. The group says it will ask for detailed accounts to verify where these resources are being allocated and “understand why there is never money available for a face-to-face meeting with state representatives from the Diversity Center.”
They also mention that the national MDB receives R$ 7,129,884.63 monthly from party funds, “the allocation of which should reflect the party’s commitment to inclusion, diversity and the strengthening of its social bases”.
“All of this leads us to believe that there is an intentional movement to silence, hinder and annihilate the party political activities of members committed to diversity”, they conclude. “This perception does not arise from chance, but from a sequence of decisions, omissions and exclusions that weaken the actions of those who believe in a plural, democratic MDB faithful to its humanist origins.”
