The launch was made at a time when other technology companies are also investing in browsers with AI capabilities. Perplexity made its Comet browser available for free in early October, while Google incorporated its Gemini model into Chrome in September.
Adam Fry, Atlas product lead at OpenAI, explained that the browser eliminates the need to copy and paste information between tabs. “Since ChatGPT will track users across the web with Atlas, there will be no need to copy and paste between tabs“, he stated during the broadcast. The browser also has memory integrated with artificial intelligence, becoming more personalized with use.
OpenAI’s CEO said the browser’s development is still in its early stages: “There is much more to be added. We are still in the early days of this project.”
