  • Spathiphyllum is a popular potted plant that sometimes blooms capriciously.
  • Lack of flowering may result from care errors, e.g. wrong location, watering or lack of nutrients.
  • You can use homemade nutrients to stimulate the plant to flower.
  • It is important to take care of the plant regularly to provide it with appropriate conditions.

Why doesn’t the Spathiphyllum bloom?

(Spathiphyllum) is one of the most popular potted plants in Polish homes. Although it is considered an undemanding plant, its flowering can be capricious. The lack of flowers may result from several basic care mistakes. The most common is a bad stance. Spathiphyllum needs diffused light. A place that is too dark will inhibit flowering, and direct sun may burn the leaves. Watering can also be problematic. The plant likes moist soil, but cannot tolerate overwatering. It is best to water it with soft water at room temperature. The Spathiphyllum also loves a humid environment. During the heating season, it is worth sprinkling it or placing it on a stand with water and pebbles. If all of the above conditions are met, the reason for the lack of flowering of the pterygium may be a lack of nutrients. Then it is worth using homemade fertilizers.

Homemade nutrients for the flowering of Spathiphyllum

Instead of using store-bought fertilizers, it is worth using kitchen leftovers. Banana peels will work. They contain potassium and phosphorus, which support flowering. The cut peels can be poured with water and set aside for 24 hours, and then water the plant once every 2 weeks. Water after cooking rice can also be used for fertilization. It is rich in microelements and acts as a delicate fertilizer. However, if we intend to use water to water flowers, we do not add salt to cook rice. Another proven conditioner for Spathiphyllum is aspirin. One tablet dissolved in a liter of water can stimulate the plant to produce buds. It is worth using once a month. We can also use coffee grounds to fertilize the plant. They improve soil structure and provide nitrogen. They can be mixed with soil or diluted with water for irrigation. The last way to stimulate the Spathiphyllum to bloom is sugar. This is grandma’s method that acts as an energizer on the plant. Dissolve a teaspoon of sugar in a liter of boiled water. After the mixture has cooled, water the plant, but only enough to moisten the soil.

What to do to make the Spathiphyllum bloom like crazy?

In addition to the above-mentioned rules of care and fertilization, it is also important to regularly trim wilted leaves and flowers so that the plant does not lose energy. It is also worth maintaining a constant temperature in the room where the Spathiphyllum is located (18-24 degrees C). You should also remember that the Spathiphyllum does not like drafts. When fertilizing in spring and summer, use fertilizers with a predominance of phosphorus.
