Nicolas Sarkozy arrived at prison at 09:40 (08:40 in Lisbon) to serve a five-year sentence for the illegal election campaign financing 2007 with funds from the former Libyan regime of Muammar Gaddafi.
The former head of state was found guilty of allowing two advisers from the Ministry of the Interior (equivalent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs) to initiate negotiations in Tripoli with the aim of secretly financing the campaign presidential of 2007.
Sarkozy, 70 years old, is the first former head of state in French history to be arrested and should be placed in a special wing of the chain ofin one of the 15 nine-square-meter cells in the solitary confinement unit.
