Deputy prepares to command General Secretariat of the Presidency; current head of the ministry, PT member Márcio Macêdo was not present
The deputy (Psol-SP), tipped to command the General Secretariat of the Presidency, participated this Monday (October 20, 2025) in the launch event of the Reforma Casa Brasil program, alongside the president (PT), ministers and representatives of the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement).
Lula must change the head of the department before his trip to Asia, which begins on Tuesday (Oct 21). The General Secretariat of the Presidency is currently with the PT, under the command of Márcio Macêdo. The minister was not at the event this Monday (Oct 20), despite the ministry’s proximity to the agenda.
According to an investigation by the Poder360the exchange had already been discussed since the beginning of the year. Macêdo has a meeting with Lula this Monday (Oct 20), when the minister should be informed about the change. Before that, Lula met with the Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann (PT), for around 2 hours.
On other occasions, Macêdo even told the Poder360 that there were many people and parties eyeing ministries and that, therefore, everything was nothing more than speculation. Ministry assistants also stated that Lula did not discuss the exchange directly with the minister. Publicly, Macedo speculation about his exchange of “political gossip”.
Psol allies claim that the idea of giving the General Secretariat to Boulos came up in discussions at Planalto. Afterwards, the deputy himself would have sought out the Presidency to demonstrate interest. The topic lost strength, but is now back in circulation.
The General Secretariat is responsible for dialogue with social movements, and the government by these groups. The management’s dissatisfaction with Macêdo was highlighted by the president himself, who demanded the minister on May 1st.
Boulos has a history of political organization and was active in the MTST (Homeless Workers Movement) for years. Recently, he was one of the organizers of the protests against the Amnesty PL and the Blindagem PEC, which led to after several mobilizations without force.
