The European Commission (EC) said on Monday that it is “fully coordinating” with Italy the procedure regarding the tariffs imposed on the import of pasta to the United States by the administration of President Donald Trump. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the ANSA agency and the Euronews portal.
EC’s statement comes after Trump shared a video of MAGA (Make America Great Again) activist Lynne Patton on his Truth Social network. In it, he states that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni plans to cut ties with the European Union (EU) and negotiate a separate trade agreement between Italy and the United States.
„The European Commission is working closely with the Italian government on possible US tariffs on pasta,” the ANSA agency quoted the EC spokesperson’s answer to a question about Patton’s video.
The Euronews portal reports that the US Department of Commerce announced on September 4 the imposition of tariffs of 91.74 percent on 13 Italian pasta brands from January 2026. Italy exported pasta with a total value of approximately 700 million euros to the United States in 2024.
