The Brazilian congresswoman’s defense announced a series of demonstrations in , after the Italian court ultimately denied the request for the congresswoman to await the extradition process in freedom. The events are scheduled to take place on November 2nd, with the participation of supporters and Brazilians residing in the Italian capital.

Zambelli faces extradition proceedings and has remained detained in Italy since her arrest, following three court hearings in which her request to respond to the case in freedom was denied. The deputy sent a letter to the Brazilian Minister of Justice, informing that she began a hunger strike, and received medical care in the last few days, according to information from correspondent David Gonçalves, from MD News.

The parliamentarian’s defense also appealed to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, with a petition signed by Brazilian parliamentarians, including Damares Alves, Magno Malta, Eduardo Girão and Flávio Bolsonaro. The document denounces the conditions of the prison where Zambelli is detained, including the alleged lack of adequate medical care. In addition to the demonstrations, Zambelli’s son is expected to travel to Italy to closely monitor the process and actions in defense of the deputy.

According to an investigation by MD News, although the Brazilian government denies exerting diplomatic pressure on the Italian authorities, the Minister of Justice met with the Brazilian ambassador in Rome, Renato Mosca, two days before President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit to the country. The final decision on the extradition process is now in the hands of Italian minister Carlo Nordio, responsible for evaluating the request sent by the Brazilian justice system.
