In western Slovakia, in the districts under the jurisdiction of the Regional Veterinary and Food Administrations, Dunajská Streda and Trnava, myxomatosis was confirmed in hares. Cases of individuals with typical symptoms of this deadly disease have been reported from several places. The Slovak Hunting Chamber informs about it on the social network and on its website. He points out that myxomatosis seriously threatens hare populations and disturbs the ecological balance of the country.
“It is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes, fleas and insects, but also by direct contact or a contaminated environment. It spreads the most at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. The virus is not transmissible to humans or other animal species,” specified the experts.
