The search for a missing Polish tourist has been underway in the Western Tatras since Monday (October 20). The request for the cooperation of the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) came from the rescuers from the Polish Tatra Mountain Service (TOPR), who were reported missing by the family members of the Polish tourist. HZS informed about it on the website.
The last contact with the tourist was on Monday at lunchtime. “It was located on the top of Bystra in the Western Tatras. The next contact was no longer successful, even though his mobile phone is still connected to the network“, they said from HZS.
The mountain rescuers did not have information on whether the missing person went on the hike from the Polish or Slovak side. HZS asked the Central Operations Center of the Police Force (PZ) of the Slovak Republic to locate the phone of the missing man. His presence was confirmed on Tuesday (October 21) at lunchtime on the Slovak side of the Western Tatras.
“Rescuers from TOPR searched the area of Bystra from the Polish side all night, also using a drone. “PZ members from the district department of Liptovský Mikuláš found the car of the missing person in the parking lot at the mouth of the Úzka dolina,” explained the mountain rescuers.
Ground mountain rescuers serving in the Žiarská dolina went on a search operation, which was subsequently joined by a drone pilot from the Avalanche Prevention and Education Center of the HZS. “They searched the area of Uzka and Račkova dolina, and from the early hours of Tuesday morning, other members of the HZS joined the search operation with a Lifeseeker search device,” added the HZS.
They added that they searched Bystrá and Kamenistá dolina together, but due to unfavorable weather conditions, the search was unsuccessful despite the efforts of all involved. The search continues on Wednesday from the early hours of the morning.
