Ciro Gomes joins the PSDB

Former minister should run for government of Ceará in 2026 against PT member Elmano de Freitas

at an event this Wednesday (22.Oct.2025), starting at 9:30 am, in Fortaleza (CE). He intends to run for government of Ceará in the 2026 elections.

Ciro was in the PDT for 10 years and became president of the acronym, , on Friday (Oct 17). This is the 7th party that the former governor of Ceará and former minister has left in his political career.

Ciro’s decision to leave the PDT was motivated by differences in alliances for the dispute for the government of Ceará in 2026. The politician disagrees with the PDT support for the PT member.

Opposition to the PT should be one of Ciro’s banners in his return to the PSDB, the party for which he governed Ceará from 1991 to 1994. In the PDT since 2015, Ciro contested for the party in two of the 4 presidential elections in which he participated. declared to be “unhappy” in the acronym after joining the base of the president (PT), of whom he was once a minister and ally.

Ciro contested 4 presidential elections (2022, 2018, 2002 and 1998), of which the last 2 were for the PDT. In 2022, it came in 4th place, with 3% of valid votes. Despite recent party movements, Ciro has already stated that he no longer intends to run for President.

In addition to the PSDB in the 1990s and before the PDT, Ciro was affiliated with the PDS, the PMDB, the PPS, the PSB and the Pros.

Ciro’s new party is going through the worst moment in its history. At his peak, from 1998 to 2000, he held some elected position. In 2025, it dropped to 3,330, considering the 2022 and 2024 elections — a drop of 66%.
