Director of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Brazil (FNF Brazil), German Hans-Dieter Holtzmann says that the success of the Foundation will depend on the ability of countries to combine economic freedom, innovation and sustainability.
On the 16th, he participated in the event “Brazil on the Road to COP30: Pathways for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development”, promoted in partnership with the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
The director stated that holding the conference in Brazil represents “a historic milestone”.
“The fact that Brazil hosts the COP is surprising and symbolic. Brazil is one of the 20 largest economies in the world, has the Amazon, the largest tropical biome on the planet, and a long diplomatic tradition in sustainability since Rio-92”, he stated.
The event was also attended by Paulo Guerra, director of Fundação Dom Cabral, Aurea Carvalho, Financial Services manager at the Development Bank of Minas Gerais, and Lucas Carlos Lima, professor of International Law at UFMG.
According to Holtzman, Brazil arrives at COP30 with conditions to reaffirm its leadership role in global climate negotiations and to present practical examples of energy transition to the world.
“The challenge now is to transform this advantage into lasting public policy and development opportunities. Economic modernization must serve climate objectives, not the other way around,” he said.
