According to senior Ukrainian officers, Russian forces attacked a kindergarten in Ukraine with drones on the morning of Wednesday, October 22. “There was a direct hit at a private kindergarten in Kholodnoyarkiy district of Kharkiv. A fire broke out,” the mayor, Ihor Terekhov, said in a statement.

Officials later added that one adult man died and that 48 children who were at the scene at the time of the attack panicked — though none were injured — and fled the scene, Politico noted.

Zelensky’s angry statement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said seven people were injured in the attack on the kindergarten, which sparked a new wave of anger against Moscow.

“They are receiving medical treatment. All the children have been taken to shelters. According to information, many of them have an acute reaction to stress,” the Ukrainian president said on social media.

“There is and cannot be any justification for a drone attack on a daycare center. Russia is becoming more and more insolent. These attacks are Russia’s slap in the face to those who insist on a peaceful solution. Bandits and terrorists can only be punished with violence,” he added.

It is worth noting that the Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet issued a statement regarding the attacks in Kharkiv.
