The Louvre Museum, in Paris, reopened this Wednesday (Oct 22, 2025) after opening on Sunday (Oct 19). The Apollo Gallery, where the items were located, remains closed due to the investigation.
The space was right after the robbery. The Louvre website said visitors with tickets already purchased would be refunded. The museum is no longer open every Tuesday, due to weekly maintenance and has maintained its schedule.
The investigation into the theft of pieces valued at 88 million euros (around R$556 million), conducted by JIRS (Inter-regional Specialized Jurisdiction) in Paris, involves around 100 investigators.
According to the newspaper, the curator and director of the Louvre since 2021, Laurence des Cars, submitted a request to resign from her position after the assault, but the President of France, Emmanuel Macron (Renaissance, center), rejected the decision and expressed support for the manager. She will be interviewed by the Ministry of Culture this Wednesday afternoon to provide clarification on the theft.
The first woman to run the most visited museum in the world has not yet spoken publicly about the incident.
The thieves took 9 French crown jewels that were displayed in the Louvre. Empress Eugênia’s crown was damaged on a street near the museum. The jewel, which belonged to Napoleon III’s wife, contains 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds.
