Slovakia can be hit by a powerful storm! SHMÚ issued warnings for these districts

On Thursday (23.10.) it is necessary in Slovakia expect rain and wind, it will be strong even in the mountains. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has therefore issued warnings of the first and second degree for some districts. SHMÚ informed about it on its website.

The institute declared first-level wind warnings for the entire area Bratislava and Trnava regions and in the districts of Myjava, Levice, Nitra, Šaľa, Kežmarok, Poprad and Tvrdošín. In most districts, they will come into force on Thursday at 10:00 a.m., in some parts of Slovakia at 2:00 p.m. They should pay provisionally until Friday (October 24) night.

Meteorologists expect gusty wind speeds in places 65 to 70 kilometers per hour. “This speed represents a potential hazard for human activities. The predicted wind speed is normal for the time of year and area, but may cause minor damage,” the institute said.

From Thursday 10:00 a.m., wind warnings will be provisionally in effect on mountains of the first and second degree. They are declared almost in their entirety Žilina region, in the districts of Poprad, Brezno and Banská Bystrica. The force of the wind can reach the levels of a strong to powerful gale in places. “The expected wind speed is above average for the given time of year and area and represents an increased danger for human activities,” warned SHMÚ. These warnings are tentatively expected to expire overnight Thursday into Friday.

In addition, meteorologists also announced level one rain warnings. They should be valid on Thursday evening from 20:00 and remain announced until Friday morning. SHMÚ drew attention to the rain especially in the districts Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Revúca, Rimavská Sobota, Rožňava, Liptovský Mikuláš, Martin, Ružomberok and Turčianske Teplice. In these places, the institute expects the amount of precipitation to exceed 30 millimeters on rare occasions.

“This total precipitation represents potential hazard for human activities. The expected amount and intensity of precipitation are normal for the given time of year and area, but they can cause damage of a smaller scale,” warned SHMÚ.
