According to its chairman Petr Fiala, the outgoing Czech government is not offended, does not prepare any obstacles for the future cabinet and plans to hand over power smoothly. He was thus reacting to the reservations of the parties of the emerging government and Czech political commentators in connection with the dispute over the state budget. On Wednesday, after the government meeting, Fiala repeated that his cabinet will return to the issue of the budget at the beginning of November after the establishment of the Chamber of Deputies, reports TASR in Prague.
- Czech Prime Minister Fiala rejects the insulted reaction to the elections.
- The government will hand over power smoothly to the new government without any problems.
- The budget remains a subject of debate between the outgoing and incoming governments.
- It reminds us of the need for a budget that reflects political priorities.
- Fiala emphasizes the importance of continuing for the benefit of citizens.
“The government is in no way offended by the election results. We are not doing anything on purpose,” Fiala emphasized. According to him, this is mainly claimed by people who criticized his government or those who do not understand what the state budget is for. He pointed out that this is the basic tool of the government, which implements its policy. Therefore, according to him, the incoming cabinet should come up with a budget that shows its priorities and the way it wants to manage the state. Fial’s government refuses to re-send its proposal to the Chamber for negotiation, even though it was repeatedly called upon by the ANO movement and President Petr Pavel to do so.
“We were based on the claims of the opposition representatives that they do not agree with our budget, that they have prepared a better one and are ready to govern. Now it turns out that this was not true, but only pre-election rhetoric,” said Fiala. According to him, it is still true that the current government will not send the budget to the House of Representatives yet, but will return to this issue at the beginning of November. “When it turns out that the new government is not able to come up with a budget or that the period during which we will still govern in resignation is being extended, we are ready to talk about how to deal with that budget. There is no stalling and no premeditation on our part, nothing like that.” pointed out the outgoing prime minister.
He added that his cabinet will not cause any problems for the new government. “We fully accept the election results, we will hand over the government smoothly… On our part, it is a good will to hand over the management of the state as soon as possible. We are in no way disappointed, offended, nor are we creating any bombs and obstacles for the future government. We are still working hard for the benefit of Czech citizens,” added Fiala.
On Wednesday, the chairman of the ANO movement, Andrej Babiš, published a video on the X social network, according to which Fial’s government will probably “harm until the end” and again accused her of not working for the benefit of Czech citizens.
