Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump’s call for Ukraine and Russia to stop at the current front lines is “a good compromise.”
“We had more than two hours of conversation on different topics, with a lot of detail,” said the Ukrainian leader when talking about his meeting with the American president at the White House last week.
“The most important details of what we discussed were about how to defend ourselves, how to have unity and security guarantees, and the role of the United States, which is important in these security guarantees for the future of Ukraine, and how now s — I mean, peace negotiations, a diplomatic path to stop Putin,” Zelensky continued. “After our conversation, you saw public messages from President Trump, he proposed that we maintain our current positions and start a conversation — I think it was a good compromise”, he concluded.
The Ukrainian leader stated that he does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin will support Trump’s proposal.
“That’s why we have to act together — all of us, European partners together with the United States — putting pressure on (Russian President) Vladimir Putin,” Zelensky said.
