Fado singer Camané paid a heartfelt tribute to Francisco Pinto Balsemão by singing the song “Abandono” during the mass of the founder of SIC and Expresso. The song, whose central theme is freedom, profoundly symbolized the value that guided the businessman and politician’s entire life.
Freedom was, in fact, one of the traits most remembered by all who knew him and worked with him. This same freedom, which served as a compass for his trajectory, echoed in Camané’s voice at the Jerónimos Monastery, in Lisbon, where the funeral ceremony took place.
The mass was presided over by D. Manuel Clemente, former patriarch of Lisbon and the first member of the Catholic Church to receive the Pessoa Prize, a distinction created precisely by Francisco Pinto Balsemão.
Portuguese artist Camané performs “Abandono”, written by David Mourão Ferreira. The song’s theme is Freedom, a term often used to define Francisco Pinto Balsemão.
