Senator stated that PEC “is on the right path, but the journey is much longer”; statement was made on X this Thursday (Oct 23)
Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) stated, this Thursday (23.Oct.2025) in his X profile, that the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) of “You’re on the right path, but the journey is much longer.” The proposal was made by the president’s government (PT).
“Nothing is more urgent in Brazil than confronting crime. Stifling their sources of financing is the first step. Since last year, I have even had a bill that attacks the factions’ funds and confiscates their resources”he wrote.
Nogueira is a critic of the government. In August, for example, the senator stated that Lula adopted a “” when dealing with international relations. The statement was a reference to diplomatic tensions between Brazil and the United States.
The proposal was presented by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, in April, and to the leaders of the Chamber and the president of the Lower House, (Republicans-PB).
Here are the main points of the proposal:
- expansion of PF powers (Federal Police) to allow operations in the States;
- creation of the Traffic Policein place of the PRF (Federal Highway Police);
- creation of a National Council for Public Security and Social Defensecomposed of representatives from the Union, the States, the Federal District, municipalities and civil society;
- creation of public and autonomous ombudsman offices throughout Brazil;
- assigns to the Union the definition of national security and defense policies.
