US President Donald Trump plans to visit the Gaza Strip. Without specifying the exact date, he said this in an October 15 interview with Time magazine published on Thursday, writes TASR.

  • Donald Trump plans to visit the Gaza Strip.
  • Trump introduced the Middle East Peace Council.
  • The American president will be the chairman of the council.
  • The establishment of the Peace Council is part of his peace plan.

“I will visit. Yes, I will,” the US president answered when asked if and under what circumstances he plans to visit Gaza. “You know, we have the Peace Council that’s already established. They asked me to be the chairman of it. Believe me, it wasn’t something I wanted to do, but the Peace Council is going to be a very influential group of people and it’s going to have a lot of power when it comes to the Middle East,” Trump continued.

Trump: If Hamas goes against the deal, nobody will mind if we punish them

“The Middle East has never been united. Now it is really united, except for Hamas, which is a fringe group, and Hamas was theoretically united as well, they signed the document. You know, they agreed to everything. Now they can go against it. That’s fine, then nobody will mind if we go there and punish them,” added the US president in an interview with Time magazine.

The establishment of the so-called Peace Council is part of Trump’s 20-point peace plan for the Gaza Strip. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other leaders should also be members of it. This international body would oversee an “apolitical Palestinian committee” made up of qualified Palestinians and international experts to administer the Gaza Strip under the Palestinian Authority after the war. The council will set the framework and manage funding for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip until the Palestinian Authority completes reforms and can take control of the enclave.
