The senator (-RJ) suggested this Thursday (23), in a publication on X (formerly Twitter), that boats that allegedly carry drugs in Rio de Janeiro should be attacked.
“How envious,” he said when sharing a post by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announcing an attack on vessels in the Pacific Ocean. In the publication, the senator says that he “heard” that there are similar boats in Rio de Janeiro.
“I heard that there are boats like this here in Rio de Janeiro, in Guanabara Bay, flooding Brazil with drugs. Wouldn’t you like to spend a few months here helping us fight these terrorist organizations?”, states the senator, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, in the post in English.
According to Hegseth, the vessel attacked on Tuesday had two drug traffickers on board. “Yesterday, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of War conducted a lethal kinetic attack on a vessel,” the secretary said in the X. “There were two narco-terrorists on board during the attack, carried out in international waters. Both terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed in this attack.”
The American government did not present evidence regarding the accusations against the attacked targets. The accusation that the boat was guided by narco-terrorists was made in all other attacks carried out in the region in the last two months — at least eight, which makes the offensive one of the most aggressive by the US in recent decades.
Bolsonaro supporters have sought support from authorities in the Trump administration to try to free the former president from prison. Flávio’s brother, congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) moved to the USA in March, from where he is leading a campaign for sanctions against Brazilian authorities involved in his father’s trial.
