Hospital ICU in Brasília records bacteria outbreak

An outbreak of the bacteria Acinetobacter baumanniiconsidered super resistant and causing serious infections, spread throughout several areas of the HCB (Hospital da Criança de Brasília José Alencar). The medical center confirmed the information this Thursday (23) to CNN Braziland stated that the most affected center is the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), but that the case is under control.

HCB highlighted that “there were no deaths recorded” and that the detection of the first cases occurred at the beginning of September, during routine tests carried out by the institution’s Hospital Infection Control Service.

After this confirmation, preventive measures established: isolating patients, blocking access to the ICU and intensifying cleaning and disinfection processes.

The hospital’s press office also reported that the case was reported to the state Department of Health and that it created a “cut-off area”, where these people were directed, with the aim of avoiding contact with other hospitalized patients.

“HCB also made an official communication to the competent health inspection bodies and the DF Health Department as soon as it identified the increase in cases of the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii in the ICU area, guaranteeing transparency and the adoption of the necessary regulatory measures”, concludes the note.
